Professor Arthur K. Wheelock, Jr., recently attended an event at the Frick Collection, where he had the pleasure of announcing, after many years of careful preparation, the publication of the online catalog of the Leiden Collection. An exemplary group of works by artists from the hometown of Rembrandt Haremensz. van Rijn, the Leiden Collection was formed by Thomas and Daphne Kaplan over the past fourteen years. Professor Wheelock served as the editor of the catalog, coordinated the efforts of nearly thirty contributors writing about 175 works, including several graduates of the Department of Art History and Archaeology and former students of Professor Wheelock (Alexandra Libby, Lloyd DeWitt, Rachel Pollack, Lara Yeager Crasselt). This online edition features dynamic and interactive views of technical photography of many of the paintings: users can compare an x-ray or infrared image of a painting with the work itself with a slider tool. It should prove a standard resource for students of Dutch art history for years to come.
Congratualtions Professor Wheelock!
