The spring exhibition season at the University of Maryland got off with a rousing start at the University of Maryland Art Gallery, where Abby Eron, a PhD candidate in American Art in the Department, opened the exhibition that she has researched and curated the past two years as Curatorial Assistant in the Art Gallery. As the website for the Art Gallery states, the exhibition, "Across the Pane: The Art of Djnua Barnes," "reintroduces and reexamines the visual production of the multi-talented American artist and author Djuna Barnes (1892-1982)." And what a reintroduction Abby has provided! Drawing from the extensive collection of Djuna Barnes in the University of Maryland Special Collections and Archives, as well as judicious outside loans, Abby has curated a retrospective that elucidates Djuna Barnes' manifold interests and talent as well as inscribing her squarely in the network of expatriate American modernism that is fairly well known in the history of art. As well, Djuna Barnes' artistic and feminist legacy is explored in a selection of contemporary works that call back to her path-breaking career.

A show rich and beautiful, and not to be missed!

UPDATE (2/18/20): Abby's show is featured in the latest edition of MarylandToday! https://today.umd.edu/articles/illustrated-history-0-431e451c-cd7e-4a6f-a8af-53c6028f9c87
