This past weekend, Associate Director of the Collaboratory Chris Cloke presented some new tools and projects undertaken this past year at the Annual Day of Archaeology Festival in Washington, DC. This free event, put on by the non-profit organization Archaeology in the Community (https://www.archaeologyincommunity.com/) is an annual celebration of archaeology, with tables featuring the work of area archaeologists and institutions. Dr. Cloke took the opportunity to show off our newly constructed and fully automated turntable, designed and built this past year by undergraduate intern Jonah Tash (who graduated from the department this spring). The turntable allows us to automate the photographic process that contributes to building highly detailed and accurate 3-D models of artifacts and other objects. Kids of all ages, and other professionals, were truly wowed by this outstanding project, and the great work done by our interns this past year to improve on the process of 3-D modeling and to document objects in the departmental study collection.
