At the 2020 Annual Meeting of the Archaeological Institute of America, Ella Breden, a senior major in the Department, presented "Re-Inventing the (Potter's) Wheel: Modeling 3D Vessels from 2D Drawings" at the poster session, for which she earned First Runner-Up (out of thirty, mostly professional entrants). Ella's poster, on which she collaborated closely with Christian Cloke, Associate Director of the Collaboratory, focuses on her innovative work in the Collaboratory this past summer as an intern. Working closely with Cloke and Quint Gregory, Director of the Collaboratory, Ella developed a method to transform traditional two-dimensional technical drawings common to the field of archaeology into digitally-rendered three-dimensional objects complete with surface decoration. Cloke, who supervised Ella's poster presentation, reports that Ella "acquitted herself like a champ." Not only was everyone who stopped by impressed with Ella and her technique, they could not believe she was an undergraduate. Those of us who know Ella and her work are not surprised. Come by and check out her poster on the fourth floor hall this spring. Congratulations Ella!
