Chao Chi Chiu was a George Levitine fellowship recipient while studying modern Japanese art under Dr. Alicia Volk. He completed his dissertation and Ph.D. work in Spring 2024. His interests focuses on East-West cultural exchanges, cultural imperialism, and themes of tradition within modern art. Chao Chi received his M.A in Art History from the Institute of Fine Arts, NYU where he wrote his thesis on the woodblock prints of 20th century French artist Paul Jacoulet. Prior to that, he received a B.A in Anthropology from the University if California, San Diego as well as a M.A in Social Science from the University of Chicago with a thesis on landscape art during Taiwan's colonial period under Japan. In addition to his academic work, Chao Chi also acted as co-curator within NYU Curatorial Collaborative for the exhibition Precarious as well as two exhibitions for the Great Hall Exhibitions at the Institute of Fine Arts: Graphic Objects: Elaine Lustig Cohen's Sculptural Works and Amy Yao: Authorized Personnel.
