The Graduate Art History Association (GAHA) is a student-run organization where students can engage in professional development through comradery and networking with prominent curators, independent scholars, professors, archaeologists, and visual artists in the field. We curate various events across the University of Maryland campus, including but not limited to symposia, colloquia, alumni networking socials, and visual artist workshops.

Each year, GAHA hosts a Distinguished Lecture Series featuring leading scholars whose work endeavors to expand the field of art history. Our goal with this lecture series is to spark dialogue about the value of the arts and humanities in the world today and to emphasize critical engagement with the power of visual media. In recent years we have had the privilege of hosting such scholars as Gennifer Weisenfeld, Huey Copeland, J.P. Park, and Jacqueline Musacchio.

Governed by graduate students, GAHA is currently sponsored by self-organized fundraisers and the generous support of the Department of Art History and Archaeology. Meetings are held monthly in a hybrid format to maximize participation and all graduate students within the department are encouraged to join.

While planning meetings are limited to Art History and Archaeology graduate students, our events are open to ALL! We welcome prospective students to the MA/PhD program, scholars in art history and archaeology, as well as anyone and everyone outside the field to attend and connect with us over our events.

For more information, please contact the current GAHA president, Zoe Copeman, at zcopeman@umd.edu
