Júlia Sodré is a first-year MA student researching Latin American Modern and Contemporary Art under the guidance of Dr. Abigail McEwen. Her academic journey encompasses an MFA in Contemporary Art from Portland State University and a BA in Visual Arts from Universidade de Brasília. As an artist and academic, Sodré focuses on text-based art in relation to culture, religion, politics, and censorship. At the University of Maryland, Sodré aims to investigate the role of Brazilian text-based guerrilla art in resisting far-right regimes during the second half of the twentieth century.
