Júlia Sodré is a PhD student researching Latin American Modern and Contemporary Art under the guidance of Dr. Abigail McEwen. Her academic journey encompasses an MFA in Contemporary Art from Portland State University and a BA in Visual Arts from Universidade de Brasília. As an artist and academic, Sodré focuses on text-based art in relation to culture, religion, politics, and censorship. At the University of Maryland, Sodré aims to investigate the role of Brazilian text-based guerrilla art in resisting far-right regimes during the second half of the twentieth century.
