Sanle is an MA/PhD student focusing on modern Japanese art, studying with Professor Alicia Volk. Her current research interests center on the relationship between art and the state, and the politics of exhibition spaces in twentieth-century Japan. Sanle completed her undergraduate studies at The Australian National University in Art History and Anthropology. She subsequently received first-class honors in Asian Studies at the same institution. Her honors thesis, "Apolitical Art? The Gutai Art Association in Postwar Japan", was published in the Routledge journal Japanese Studies (2025).
