Pressly Forum: Dean Stephanie Shonekan, "Race and the American Story: Reflections on Two Approaches to Racial Justice Work" - Part Two
Please join us for a special Pressly Forum as we welcome back Professor Stephanie Shonekan to continue sharing with us a bit about her amazing social justice work and praxis.
Her talk will consider the ways in which scholars and artists can contribute to the enduring fight for social justice by focusing on two examples. Last semester, she will describe the creation and evolution of the "Race and the American Story" project (RAS), which she co-founded at the University of Missouri after a student movement for racial justice. At this Pressly Forum, Dean Shonekan will discuss the iconic music album by Max Roach "We Insist!: Max Roach's Freedom Now Suite" (1960) as an example of how artists can and should be involved in this work.
The Pressly Forum offers members of Department faculty and selected speakers to give a talk to members of the Department (faculty, staff, students) in an effort to create bonds of intellectual and collegial community. The forum is the brainchild of Professor Emeritus William L. Pressly, after whom the forum now is named. A light lunch will be served at 11:30.
