Department Alumna Jennifer Quick's Book on Ed Ruscha is Published
June 13, 2022

Jennifer Quick is moving on multiple fronts these days
Jennifer Quick (UMD, MA 2008) is firing on all cylinders. Her book Back to the Drawing Board: Ed Ruscha, Art, and Design in the 1960s, a reworking of her 2015 dissertation on the same subject at Harvard University, was recently published, she is working with the Getty Research Institute on a digital publication focused on Ruscha’s expansive Streets of Los Angeles archive that is housed at the Institute, and in the fall she’ll teach a history of photography course at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
However, not one to let the grass grow beneath her feet, Jennifer began a second career a couple of years ago coaching CrossFit, including pregnant and postpartum athletes. She knows of what she coaches - she recently gave birth to a son, working in modified sets up to birth! Jennifer finds connection between this work and her teaching - "the style of coaching we use in CrossFit actually has a lot of similarities with the active and engaged teaching methods I learned so much about in my days at UMD!"
Congratulations Jennifer on your abundance of great news!
