Art History and Archaeology Majors and Minors welcome to apply

The Department of Art History and Archaeology (ARTH) is partnering with the Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) to establish a collaborative internship cohort, comprised of two undergraduate Art History and Archaeology majors and minors from UMD. Interns will participate in the BMA’s 8-week, paid internship program in Summer 2024.

Known for its progressive curatorial and collecting vision, the BMA is led by ARTH alumni, including the museum’s director and three of its curators. ARTH is proud of its role in developing art historical expertise in Maryland, helping to keep our art institutions strong and responsive to our community.

The BMA-UMD internships are designed to expand access to the museum profession and to showcase the many career paths that are open to Art History majors and minors. Interns will have the opportunity to work at the BMA and learn how to use their degree upon graduation.

The BMA summer internship schedule consists of 12 hours per week across 8 weeks (June 10-August 16, 2024), and is supported by a $2000 stipend, distributed in two installments throughout the internship. Students can also enroll for a three-credit experiential-learning course (ARTH386).

There are two curatorial internships this summer: Image Services and Rights and Year of the Environment. Applications are due by April 28th, 2024. Students should indicate in the subject line of their emailed submission that they are UMD students.
