The $25,000 grant will focus on providing students opportunities to "understand the process of commissioning and installing public art."

Associate Professor Abigail McEwen has been awarded a $25,000 grant as part of the inaugural round of Do Good Campus grants to transform or fashion an aspect of campus life and experience. Her proposal - Public Art - builds on a successful course she has fashioned and experiences students already have had in transforming a part of the campus, such as this past fall, when students from a spring 2023 public art course successfully realized the installation of Alyssa Imes's public work Chill Bloom.

Her grant is "an innovative and compelling idea to integrate art into the landscape at the University of Maryland. From murals to monuments, sculptures to digital projections, public art has the power to transform its environment and to express a community’s character, diversity and values. This project provides students with an incredible opportunity to understand the process of commissioning and installing public art."

Congratulations Prof. McEwen!
