Professor Volk's new book and an exhibition curated by her Fall 2024 488 students featured in new UMD Special Collections exhibition

Two fruits of Professor Volk's years-long exploration of the Prange Collection on view at the same time
Unboxing Innovation, the Special Collection and University Archives' latest exhibition, features a range of scholarly work and student experiences. Happily, two of the featured items on display tie to our own Professor Volk. You may recall that about this time last year, students in Professor Volk's fall 488 course held a reception for their delightful and beautiful exhibition in the Maryland Reading Room, Onchi Kōshirō, Graphic Artist: Picturing Postwar Japan. That show is remembered in this exhibition with a small display. As well, Professor Volk's recently-published book, In the Shadow of Empire: Art in Occupied Japan is on display. This book draws heavily from the Prange collection, including much of the material from which students curated their exhibition.
Congratulations Professor Volk and her well-inspired students!
