Tucker will present her paper entitled, "Hidden Harmonies: Exploring Morality and Perception in Rubens and Brueghel's The Sense of Hearing on April 8-12, 2026 at the SUNY New Paltz Undergraduate Art History Symposium. The Sense of Hearing (1617-18) explores the intrinsic harmony between music and the visual arts. Commissioned by the Archdukes Albert and Isabella of Spain, it is part of a series of five paintings displaying each of the human senses through lavish iconographic detail and references to antiquity meant for the elite and educated viewer. The five senses play an integral role in how human beings experience the world around them, and Brueghel and Rubens sought to capture these ideas through these comprehensive paintings, each of which are a labyrinth into the deeper meanings behind each sensory experience. Tucker questions how the work tackles moral themes of good and evil through the senses, and how this allows viewers to deeply engage with their senses while viewing the work.

Congratulations, Tucker!
