Mansbach's "scientific and academic work played a role in shaping the view of Central and Eastern European art"
Distinguished University Professor Emeritus Steven Mansbach has received the highest award of the Czech Academy of Sciences, the honorary medal De scientia et humanitate optime meritis, in a ceremony last week in the hall of the Library of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic on Národní třída in Prague honoring "four personalities who have pushed the boundaries of knowledge and made their mark in their fields." In her encomia lauding Professor Mansbach's career, Pavla Machalíková - from the Institute of Art History of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (Ústavu dějin umění AV ČR) - emphasized that Mansbach's "scientific and academic work played a role in shaping the view of Central and Eastern European art." In his laureate address, Mansbach emphasized his belief that he "firmly believe(s) and maintain(s) that the art and culture that developed here shaped the course of modern art on a universal scale.” Concluding her remarks, Machalíková remarked "the title of the medal, which can be translated as 'For Services to Science and Humanity,' aptly describes not only Steven Mansbach's scientific contribution to the field of art history. It also reflects his exceptional personal qualities."
We heartily agree, and congratulate you Professor Mansbach for this signal honor!
