Sydney Parkin is a PhD student studying Roman art and archaeology with Dr. Maryl B. Gensheimer. Sydney received her A.A. in International Studies from SUNY Orange in 2020, a B.A. in Classical and Ancient Near Eastern Studies from The George Washington University in 2022, and a M.A. in Classical Archaeology from Florida State University in 2025. Her Master’s Thesis, titled The Baths of Volterra: A Case Study into the Bathing of Late Antiquity, examined several baths throughout the region of Tuscany; specifically buildings of new construction during the 3rd and 4th centuries CE exploring questions surrounding the transformational nature of the
space and why these structures were still being built with the introduction of Christianity.
Sydney has been a part of the American Excavations at Corinth since 2024, excavating North of the Theater. She has also been a part of the Montereggi Archaeological project since its first season in 2024, where she is a supervisor and specifically works with teaching students about fieldwork and archaeological practices. She was previously involved with the Cosa Excavations.
Her research interests include Greek and Roman art and archaeology, Roman infrastructure and water management, urbanism, gladiatorial games and spectacles, and Roman religion.
